Queen Nzinga by Redamance Perfume
The notes reflect her complexity, regality and warmth of this perfume
THE HOUSE
Founded by Marissa Zappas, a perfumer and anthropologist, Redamance aims to establish a more expansive space for olfactive design in the arts, intellectual life, and personal expression.
Redamance goes beyond traditional narratives prevalent in fragrance advertising. Utilizing the power of scent, we channel unconventional women in history who were unapologetically themselves.
Redamance is derived from the word “redamancy” which means “the act of loving in return”, and it is our intent to link women of the past to women today through the transportive art of perfumery.
Each fragrance is an homage and olfactive portrait of an overlooked woman from history who truly owned her complexities.
Marissa Zappas is an anthropologist turned perfumer. Her work explores the history of perfumery as it correlates to the history of cemeteries and how perfume acts as an extension of the body.
Marissa worked at Givaudan as part of her ethnographic training and began working as a lab apprentice to Master Perfumer, Olivier Gillotin. She left Givaudan to pursue this full-time in late 2017.
THE PERFUME
This perfume is an olfactive portrait of Queen Nzinga (1583-1663) of the Ndongo and Matamba Kingdoms in present-day Angola. Queen Nzinga was a brilliant military strategist and true queen of the people, often fighting on the front lines in battle. Her troops defeated the Portuguese colonists on multiple occasions. The notes reflect her complexity, regality and warmth. Queen Nzinga is a uniquely seductive bright amber fragrance with a slightly powdery and warm dry down.
NOTES
Geranium, Tamarind, Amber.
REVIEW
Thank you to my hermano Martin (thescentedcat on Insatgram) for sharing this gem with me and blessing me with it as from now on, it will forever remind me of him.
A three dimensional tamarind note with its multifaceted attributes welcomes you to this complex piece of art. Spicy fresh geranium with velvety nuances acts as a catalyst to a luscious floral heart with powdery beauty that gives the impression of the smell of gold to my nose. An everlasting and enveloping warm amber base wrapped in the most precious musky undertones rounds up this bewitching piece. It smell like something nostalgic with the charming aura of a perfume from another era with its regality and its refined edges.
