EVERLASTING BY THE ZOO
A unique creation like nothing you have ever encountered
THE PERFUMER AND THE PERFUME
This is a creation by Christophe Laudamiel for his own house
'The Zoo', a small house based in the city that never sleeps New York and owned
by Christophe itself. The Zoo creates one of the most unique, beautiful and
interesting fragrances in the market nowadays. They see each of their
fragrances as animals. They compose a menagerie of colors and personalities,
requiring exotic ingredients from around the world. They are blended by
Christophe to deliver intrigue, surprise and comfort, and shipped in natural
woolen pouches where they long for you to unleash them.
Laudamiel's talented hands did it once again, after lots of
successful creations both in the designer and mainstream industry and the indie
and niche market, the creation of his own house is a true declaration of
intentions and a way to express himself (even more if it's possible) in all of
their creations which has an heritage and DNA well marked and implemented.
Christophe has become one of my absolute favorite perfumers thanks to the way
he uses the ingredients and all the fragrances that I had the luck to discover
during the last years, such as the majestic creations he did for my beloved
house Strangelove NY where you can read for DeadofNight, here , for MeltmyHeart here , for FallintoStars here , and for LostinFlowers here or the superlative rose fragrance
that he composed for Lazarus Douvos that I reviewed in my last post and that
you can read here
Christophe is the only perfumer worldwide with scents entered
officially in collections such as the International Perfumery Museum in Grasse,
the Cleveland Museum of Art and currently temporary in exhibit at the Culture
Museum in Basel.
He is also the only perfumer represented by 2 art galleries,
leading to five solo shows in three years strictly devoted to olfactory art:
Dillon in New York City and Mianki in Berlin, Germany. He also made and
scent-jockeyed the 30-plus scents for scent opera Green Aria at the Guggenheim
Museums and with colleague the 15 scents for the book and
movie “Perfume, the story of a murderer”.
He is known for his avant-garde work, establishing a trail
of signature, high-end fragrances of all kinds.
Everlasting was created in 2016 under his own DreamAir Studios (founded in 2010) and The Zoo. Website describes Everlasting as:
Dream “Some of the best things in life appear in darkness
and will entice you to live, or tell a good tale.”
Scent Labdanum resin extracted from this wild Spanish plant smells very resiney-ambery, and somewhat leathery. Combined with large amounts of Narcissus absolute from Aubrac-Auvergne, France, the birthplace of yours truly provides a definite amber and Chypre feeling. Modern musks and strong woods are added to (reconstituted) moss.
Twist Narcisse absolute is not really floral, but very
green-earthy and wet-mossey. Aubrac-Auvergne could be the French Montana,
complete with dormant volcanoes, pristine lakes, less dormant rivers, and wild
cattle on vast mountainous landscapes. Real moss would smell too old fashioned
in this seductive blend. The pure, and much more expensive, Narcisse Absolute
gives Everlasting its Chypre character.

REVIEW
An extraordinary, elegant and crafted to perfection
fragrance that carries an aura from the past when perfumery was made in a way
that not only the sense of smell but all senses were touched. One of those few
perfumes that makes butterflies fly on your belly as a result of pure
excitement and feeling of joy. Everlasting as its own name suggests, represents
the quintessence of classic perfumery or fragrances from the mecca of
perfumery, Grasse where timeless classics are produced to last for eternity.
The stars of this masterpiece are my beloved labdanum
harvested from the best selected wild cistus ladanifer bushes in my country
Spain, with all its resinous, sticky, leathery, intoxicating and ambery
greatness. Narcissus absolute showing its dark, green, earthy and even mossy
aroma with a deeply marked vintage character that supports the labdanum
creating a dreamy accord which results in a rich modern yet classic dark chypre
perfume.
The woods and soil aspects in the base smells with an
enchanting humid backdrop that settles into a certain resinous darkness with an
amalgamation of sun dried woods, caramel like accords & musky vibes with a
touch of florals and a bittersweet vibe conforming a mysterious but at the same
time dreamcast landscape.
There's a certain dampness to it that reinforces the hyper
reallistic wet, mossy forest aura with all the beautiful resinous, dark, earthy
and woody melange that this scent trail leaves.
Everlasting is pure poetry on skin and it's one of those
perfumes that makes you think that there aren't words to describe and make
justice to its superlative, rich and full of personality soul. Another
masterpiece by Christophe Laudamiel for his own house The Zoo NYC.
